Unstuck

OK…after feeling a bit mentally stuck, I surfed around on some blogs and found this gem. Now I’m ready to dive back into work.

In case you need a 5 minute break too, I offer this to you.

Lansing’s Recession Impact

This past weekend at Riv, I asked the same three questions I asked on my blog a week or so ago.

1) Have you been personally impacted by the recession?

2) If yes, how?

3) On a scale of 1 (Scared out of my mind) to 10 (Incredibly hopeful), how are you feeling?

This morning the pastors and a few others prayed about the nearly 700 responses. Wow–it was powerful to read the stories of job loss, failing businesses, family struggle, etc.

But it was equally powerful to see how many people at Riv are still clinging onto hope. I’ll talk more about it this weekend, but here is a snapshot of the answers we received to the third question (by percentage):

Crave

This past weekend I launched a new series at Riv called “Crave.” This week we focused on the “Craving Physical Pleasure.” I promised I would hook you guys up with some resources for help, so here they are.

Why I’m a Penguins Fan

Pens
The number one question I have received the past few weeks is, “how can you live in Michigan and be a Penguins fan?” It’s a relatively short story, so I figured I’d post it here.

When I was a little kid, my parents bought me a Franco Harris jersey. I really don’t know why, since we were from Detroit, but they did. The 70s were a great time to be a Steelers fan and that began my fascination with Pittsburgh sports.

I wasn’t introduced to hockey in any substantial way until I went to MSU. At that point, I naturally gravitated to the Penguins. Those where the Mario Lemieux / Jaromir Jagr days, and again I picked the prime season to be a Pittsburgh fan. Grace and I even went to the semi-finals game when Mario came back from time off (it was either his back problems or his cancer…can’t remember which) to score twice in the first minute of the game.

Unfortunately, living in Michigan, I am only able to follow them online until the playoff season each year. And the last two years have given me lots of hockey to watch.

So there you have it.
