one hundred push ups
Aug 4, 2008 Uncategorized
Yesterday I played on the trampoline at my sister’s house with my son.
And I got seriously winded.
This was a couple days after my friend John asked me when I mountain biked last…and the answer was “not this year.”
I am seriously out of shape…and winter is coming.
So I have decided to do the one hundred push ups challenge. I have seen this on a few blogs lately (most recently Kat’s). Basically, it takes wimps like me and guarantees we will be able to do 100 consecutive push-ups at the end of a 6 week period.
I’m going for it. And by posting this here, I know you will all give me crap if I don’t do it.
You in?
If you’re in, leave a comment. I’m starting today.
Oh, and I plan on biking on as many of the off days as I can.

I’m only on week 3 (which is t-o-u-g-h, by the way) and I already feel much stronger.
I had been doing some push ups, but it’s so motivating to have a goal and a plan.
We can do it!

you mountain bike? Is there a small group @ riv for MTBrs? If not we should start one.

This is a great idea. I’m in - ’cause I’m way out of shape as well.
Oh BTW, I’ll be using “Joe’s Goals” to track it.

Pretty cool site where you can share your progress and all that nice Web 2.0 stuff.

Mountain biking > pushups. I was at Burchfield on Saturday and the trails are in great condition. The teeter totter and Dragonball Run beckon.

I don’t think one exists, but it has been talked about on and off.

You convinced me, I’m in. My first try for the ranking I did 25, how about you?

I’m in.

I’m sticking with my set of 60 every day… beyond that is dangerous. A short lapse can lead to a Bob Paulson chest.

His name is Robert Paulson.

I had to google Bob Paulson. Brilliant, Art, absolutely brilliant.

I don’t know about “brilliant”, I’ve made the mistake before.

Do this mean we can see you going up on stage, doing one handed push ups, and having Rocky music in the background after you can do 100 of them?
I do 125 three times a week with the rest of my workout. My workout that I’ve tweaked until I got it down is basically one set with many reps since I can’t stand the idea of going through it again.
Start with a number like 10 and that’s my base. All exercises after that are multiples of the base number. Do that three times in a week and then next week move the base number up 1-2. I peak at 25 for a base since it takes me a minimal of 25 minutes to get through it. Add in 25LB. free weights and that’s all I do for that aspect. Add in 30 minutes of treadmill on those days, and 45 minutes when I don’t lift.
Over 20Lbs. lost this year and that’s including taking two months off because I messed up my knee at work. Aiming for under 20% body fat since that’s what’s deemed healthy for my age(31-40). It also would mean going from just over 30% to under 20%.

It looks like we might be working up a Dutch contingent to take on the 100 push-ups challenge here in Amsterdam as well… I’m thinking we’ll probably start next week. Thought you might be interested to hear that.

Awesome, Eric. Glad to see from your site that you’re working off your American gut.
