The second notice should really be stapled up there.

  2. Dawn Says:

i know quotation marks can vary depending on the overall typeface design, but those quotation marks look more like inch marks to me as well, making that first note look even worse. i am sooo picky. it is a curse.

I realize it’s cheesy, but, um Grammar Girl is one of my favorite podcasts.

  4. Marie Dysangco Says:

I was at a gas station somewhere in northern Michigan that served “homemade” ice cream, which concerned me somewhat.

Noel, have you ever seen the blog of unnecessary quotations? It’s pretty entertaining, especially if you’re a punctuation snob… http://quotation-marks.blogspot.com/

Grammar and punctuation, here, and I don’t consider it a curse. With e-mail and instant messaging, it can only get worse… Their purpose is to provide for the clearest communication possible, without which everything suffers from relationships to international relations.

My favorite is the greasy spoon with a sign that promises “Good food.”

  7. Noel Says:

Nice site, Doug, although I “suspect” it would get boring after awhile.

  8. Tina Says:

I’ll take unnecessary quotation marks over unnecessary apostrophes (the marks, not the speeches) any day.

    Grammar snob love to all.
