Exposed

Holy cow.
This weekend we launched our new series at Riverview. We’re calling it Exposed and we’re examining how both culture and religion have it wrong when it comes to our sexuality. This message is a direct result of our PostSecret series, where we learned that the single largest issue facing the people in our church is our sex lives.
Honestly…this is the first time I am teaching a series I initially didn’t want to teach. Not that I wanted to avoid it or anything–it’s just that I had a whole lot of other ideas. Every time I started working on them, I couldn’t get any traction and I found myself being drawn back to this topic. I really feel like this is what we need to go through at this time.
And after the first weekend, I can tell we were right. I have never been so physically and emotionally drained after a weekend at Riverview. Literally every minute between and after each service was filled with people sharing their stories, arguments, objections, and the like. In fact, I got done talking with someone literally 5 seconds (I’m not exaggerating) before I had to walk on the stage for the 11:30ish service.
Nate captured the brilliant set he and Kristie put together for the series over on his blog. Make sure you check it out. Here’s one of the pictures he took:

Over at WalkTheRazor.com, I am dedicating the month of January to the topic of sex to go along with this series. So, if you haven’t checked out that site yet, now is the time to do so. That will be a place we can discuss this series in more depth in between the weekend services and hopefully I’ll slap up a few new podcasts as well.
Alright, I seriously need a nap.

I cherish my after church Sunday naps when I play in the band all weekend. I’m willing to bet you might be just a little more tired out…

Well crap, I guess now I have to download the mp3 and listen to it so I argue too.

Awesome Noel. Really good stuff, I am stoked for the rest of the series. Hope the nap was nice too.

Did you purposely buy a Burger King soft drink for both the Saturday and Sunday services, or was that just an extra ‘prop’ left over from Saturday? Or maybe a clever way to appear more culturally relevant??? hehehe

Left over prop. I rinsed it out Saturday Night so I could reuse it on Sunday.

I want to thank you. :o) I appreciate that you are not afraid to speak the truth but do so with loving, yet sarcastic, words. I do hope you get some rest before this next weekend!
