Free Internet Filtering

So my friend DJ linked to this pretty cool service called OpenDNS that offers free internet filtering of porn, etc. I installed it earlier today and it’s pretty cool. It works with Apple, as well as other lesser known operating systems because it is installed on your router, not on your computer. I think they have a single computer deal, too, but I haven’t set that up.

The cool thing is it replaces your DNS servers and doesn’t run on your computer (which can slow things down and muck things up). Instead, they claim their service will speed things up. We’ll see.

So far, so good. At face value it’s better than any other service out there I have messed around with.

Here’s a video where a guy explains the service to his dad. Anyone who has ever helped their parents with their computers should enjoy this.

Sorry, dad, it’s just the truth.

I’ve been using OpenDNS for a year and had zero glitches, just faster service on my DSL than the original AT&T DNS. It just works.

P.S. Your new web site loads waaay to fast, no time to go for a cup of coffee now!

Sorry about that Gary. I guess I didn’t expect that response. :)

This is the coolest freebie out there. Set it up tonight, and it works great. So cool…

    Thanks for passing it along.

Great find. Just set it up.

    By the way….Happy Birthday.

Nice. Good to see you talk about technology other than something offered by your idol (as in baal or apple computers, not as in the singing american kind of idol)

I’ve been using OpenDNS since I read a favorable review by David Pogue. Once they added the adult site filtering, I added that feature and I found it works. (My daughters can’t get to VictoriasSecret.com) .

The only downside is that is won’t work when your on the road.

Thanks for using OpenDNS. And glad you enjoyed Chris Pirillo’s video as much as we did. ;-)

Oinks from Arnold!! I have been using this for a short time and find it is very fast compared to the Google web accelerator. I decided to go to the medium level of DSL speed and whoosh…it was so much faster loading screens with photos. Keep up the good work and thank you. :@)

I haven’t begun to use OpenDNS, but will be putting it on our one computer at home. I’m going to start recommending this at the Fight Club. For anyone that is interested in helping promote the government to put all pornography on a different port and make viewers who are 17 and older register with the government please look at the CP80 Internet Channel Initiative at: http://www.cp80.com/training
