Turkeys

Sunrise by Norah Jones

Each year, at Riverview, we provide thanksgiving meals to families in the Lansing area. The church provides the turkeys, families from our church provide the fixings and deliver the whole thing.

Turkey Sunday is always fun. A team sits in front of our church with a trailer or truck full of turkeys, passing them out.

This morning I was talking with the team and they told me we were helping 200 families this year! That’s twice the number we did last year. I said, “wow–that’s awesome.” The woman I was talking with said, “kinda good…kinda bad.” When I asked her to clarify, she said last year the organization we get family names from had 800 people total in the Lansing are that needed help this season. This year, the number is 1500! Wow. The need this year almost doubled.

It made me thankful for all my family has.

Coverville 385: Feeling Requesty by Brian Ibbott

I have been staring at a tree all week. It’s right outside my window at the church. Everything around it is dead and brown. It is bright red and yellow.

This picture doesn’t do the tree justice, but I felt like posting it anyway.

Go On by Russ Taff

Thanks to ysmarko for linking to this brilliant article by Jack Handey in The New Yorker.

Here are a few of my favorite pieces of wisdom from the piece:

You go skipping and prancing through life, skipping through a field of dandelions. But what you don’t see is that on each dandelion is a bee, and on each bee is an ant, and the ant is biting the bee and the bee is biting the flower, and if that shocks you then I’m sorry…

But then something happened, something that would make me understand that this is no game. I was walking past a building and I saw a man standing high up on a ledge. “Jump! Jump!” I started yelling. What happened next would haunt me for the rest of my days: the man came down from the building and beat the living daylights out of me. Ever since then, I’ve realized that this is no game…

Perhaps one day the Indian will put down his tomahawk and the white man will put down his gun, and the white man will pick up his gun again because, Ha-ha, sucker…

Coley’s Headband | Dan and Noel’s Treat

I haven’t posted a random picture of one of my kids in awhile, but this one was too cute so I had to. Coley got into Emma’s headbands:
