Stephen Colbert Running for “President”

“I shall seek the office of the president of the United States,” the Comedy Central host, 43, declared Tuesday on his show, The Colbert Report, as red, white and blue balloons rained down around him.

“After nearly 15 minutes of soul-searching, I have heard the call,” he told the audience.

Colbert said he planned to run in his native state of South Carolina, “and South Carolina alone” as both a Democrat and Republican, explaining, “I can lose twice.”

Can any of my German readers translate any good lines for us?

White Ladder by David Gray

Because I know you have nothing better to do with your time, I thought you’d like to play with the webcam that overlooks our construction site. You can move it around, zoom in and out, and other fun stuff.

I snapped this picture from the camera just a few minutes ago:

To play with the camera, just head over to this site. Eventually, this will be on our Ownit.cc site, but it’s down right now while we resolve a domain issue.

Also, this baby doesn’t work on Firefox, but other browsers seem to do fine.

Have fun!

Amber Waves Goodbye by Lost Dogs

Kevin Judy just sent me this awesome conversation:

i overheard a group of people at LCC talking about riverview a few minutes ago, and it was hilarious.

girl – “i really liked noel’s teachings last month, they were sweet!”
guy – “is that the bald guy?”
girl – “no man, he’s the young guy.”
guy – “oh ok, the guy with hair and a goatee?”
girl – “yea, the young one.”

It just reminds my how important it is for us to introduce ourselves when we get up to teach.

God Sends Quails by The Seventy Sevens

Even as I posted yesterday about having a love for the Lansing area, a new developed was announced today. You can read about it on the Lansing State Journal. Cool potential. Here’s the details:

Developer Pat Gillespie wants to build two new housing, retail and office developments near Oldsmobile Park and the Lansing City Market.

Market Place

• Four to five buildings

• A new indoor and outdoor City Market

• 140,000 square feet of retail, office and residential space

• Cost: $24 million-$30 million

• Construction could begin by fall 2008, with completion by summer 2010

Ball Park North

• Four buildings, including two six-story towers

• 138,000 square feet of retail, office and residential space

• Cost: $25 million-$29 million

• Construction schedule is likely to mirror or follow Market Place

Plan B by Mute Math

“My feeling about people in whose conversion I have been allowed to play a part is mixed with awe and even fear: such as a boy might feel on first being allowed to fire a rifle. The disproportion between his puny finger on the trigger and the thunder and lightening which follow is alarming.”

All That I Can Do by The Mighty Lemon Drops

OK, this is weird, but I have three different quotes that bring one simple thought to mind.

First, from MondayMorningInsight.com

In another fascinating story at LarkNews.com, Horizon Christian Fellowship, a 15-member worship band cranks out praise songs and the pastor preaches with the aid of stadium lighting and jumbo-size screens. But the church, which is only eight months old, has an average attendance of just 28.

Second, (via Faithmaps) a quote from the pastor of Lifechurch.tv:

“I’d caution people from taking pride in their preferred church size. Bigger is not best. Smaller is not best. Whether large, mid-sized, or small, the important thing is that Christ is preached and the gospel is lived.”
- Craig Groeschel

Third, a chapel message from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

“I think where you are should determine how multi-cultural you should be. It would give God honor and glory to be as diverse as your community is because you love where God has placed you. And that means if you are reaching farmers you love them deeply and you love all the different kinds that are there. It means wherever you are, you seek to engage that community with the good news of Jesus Christ.”
- I have no idea who said this, it was in a Q and A

This has been on my mind lately, and Dan brought it up during lunch: all of us at Riverview have got to all fall in love with the Lansing area for the sake of the Gospel. This is where God has put us, and there are so many people around us who need Jesus. We need to figure out how to reach them and we need to reach them.
