Things may be a little slow on the blogging front over the next week because I will be in Maui with my lovely wife.
I know, I know.
Deal with it.

Yesterday, I told you about how I was excited to read the new book by Khaled Hosseini, “A Thousand Slendid Suns.” Well, today I looked online and saw that a copy was “Recently Returned” to my local library. That means it wasn’t on the shelf yet!
It took about 10-15 minutes to track it down with the librarians, but I walked out with the book in hand.
And who should I see on the sidewalk walking in?
Dan.
He was heading into the library to check out the same book. When I saw him, I graciously announced:
“I got the last one…suck on it!”
That’s what friends are for. I took this picture for posterity’s sake:

Alanis covers “My Humps”

OK, so I’m not sure how I missed this one. I just stumbled onto this “Alanis Morissette” cover of “My Humps.” When I first watched the video, I thought “man, she really looks like Alanis.” Upon some further research, I discovered that it is indeed her! You can see more about it on her site.
Realize that there is some “bumping and grinding” in the video, although it is totally tongue in cheek. There is also all of the language from the original. If you are offended by those things, don’t watch this video.

Thanks to Dan for pointing out that one of my favorite books is being made into a movie.

“The Kite Runner” (Khaled Hosseini)
You can check out the trailer on their site: The Kite Runner Blog. Unfortunately, there isn’t an embeddable trailer and they keep taking down any that people post. Methinks they have a thing or two to learn about viral advertising.
I plan on reading the sequel on vacation (details on my vacation coming soon…).

This commercial, via Hot Air, is on one hand awesome, on the other inexplicable.
See if you can figure out what it is an ad for before the graphics come up at the end.

The Crappy Parking Spot Club

Because of the facility expansion at Riverview, our parking lot is kinda messy. There are spots that are covered with gravel and sand and mud. It isn’t piled up to make the spaces unparkable, it just makes your car messy to park there.
Last week when I arrived for the weekend services on Sunday morning, I found something interesting. Everyone’s cars were strategically parked around the bad spots. That means that the last people who arrive are going to be stuck in the bad spots. At our 10ish service, we only had 15 spots left over and 7 people were parked illegally.
This experience and a recent email from my friend Gary have inspired me to create The Crappy Parking Spot Club for any Riverview person who wants to join.
Membership is easy. When you arrive for a weekend service at Riverview, try to find the worse possible spot to park in. Muddy spots, or spots super far away from the building are prime. Let’s make it so that the crappy spots fill up first, leaving the best spots for those who arrive last.
Oh. and since I am the only one here right now and the service starts in 4 hours and 10 minutes, I have already claimed the Crappiest Spot for myself. Suckers! Not only is my spot muddy, but half of it isn’t even paved.

Hmmm…looking at that picture, it occurs to me I may have accidentally taken two spots…after I post this, I am going to go move my car over a couple feet.

Yesterday during a Black Shirt Club meeting at Riverview, two of the esteemed members (Nate and Tereja) were whining about having to register to make comments on my site.
I explained my problem with Spam a few years back and Nate insisted that I check out Spam Karma. He has promised me that this solution will work better. If not, this is mine.
Bottom Line: You can now comment on my site without registering! Enjoy…while it lasts.
