What does that mean?
Is it a good or a bad thing?
Hi, I'm Noel and I'm a recovering hypocrite. I spend the majority of my time pastoring and teaching at Riverview, surfing the internet on my iProducts, and hanging out with my smoking hot wife and four wildly talented children. I plan on spending the rest of my life figuring out how to vicariously plant hundreds of churches without ever leaving my church. Oh, and even though I work for Riv, everything here is my personal opinion and nothing more.

I think it means what everyone already knows; the SBC (mostly) has no desire to be flexible in their ministry and outreach model, particularly in engaging young people. I think it’s both good and bad; good because churches that loose sight of mission should be closed or let to expire, bad because that’s sad. Also sad because on many theological issues I fall closest to SBC.

Good or bad? How about “Interesting but in the end, mostly meaningless without more information”?
How long does it take for a person to come to saving faith? How long does it take for him to reach maturity in the faith?
Suppose that my congregation appoints 4 pastors a year, ages 20, 25, 30, and 35. The congregation has done this since time before time – or at least 100 A.D., and all pastors are caught up in chariots of fire at age 80.
I think that means the church has 220 pastors. How many are under 30? Only 15, or 7%. How many are under 40? 50, or 23%.
That’s surprisingly close to the SBC numbers – and I think 20 is very young age for pastors.

I was pastoring at age 17. I really wasn’t prepared to pastor until I was 30, after 13 years of ministry and leading over 5000 people to Jesus. I have talked to many that still didn’t know what they believed even after receiving their Mdiv. Perhaps the fact that Jesus entered formal ministry at 30 was more than a cultural factor. Perhaps it was a model.
