In this episode, I chat through the strengths and weaknesses of home-schooling, public schooling, and private schooling. I also talk about why my wife and I have chosen to do a hybrid of home and public schooling. This is in response to a recent conversation on my blog.

Hi, I'm Noel and I'm a recovering hypocrite. I spend the majority of my time pastoring and teaching at Riverview, surfing the internet on my iProducts, and hanging out with my smoking hot wife and four wildly talented children. I plan on spending the rest of my life figuring out how to vicariously plant hundreds of churches without ever leaving my church. Oh, and even though I work for Riv, everything here is my personal opinion and nothing more.

Well said. Thanks for talking about the “sheltering” aspect of homeschooling too. As the oldest of 6 homeschooled children I was extremely sheltered. As you were saying when I got out on my own it was definitely a crazy time. The problem was that I wasn’t out on my own until I was preparing for marriage. My “crazy” phase happened during my first two years of marriage. By the grace of God my wife waited for me to settle down and we now have a loving relationship and a happy family (We always tell people that we have been married for 7 wonderful years… 9 years total…). My younger siblings have almost all followed the same pattern of going crazy right after they move out. Two of them have left the faith completely, wanting nothing to do with God. My wife was put in public school and her parents told her frequently that she was in the world but not of it. They told her that she was the salt of the earth and what use is salt if it sits in the shaker? We had many discussions about how we were going to raise our sons and we have decided that we will put our sons in public school. We will also train our sons in the knowledge that we have been placed in this earth with a mission. Our purpose is to live as followers of Jesus in a world that needs His love.
