Quote of the Day

//MOOD: Thinking

//NOISE: Talking

From Jimmy:

Here’s an idea: If you are talented in music, or visual arts, or movie making, or script writing, or clothing design, or whatever, go into the marketplace and let your art speak for itself. Create excellent art that is indicative that we are creative beings, made in the image of a creative God. Don’t tell people they should partake in your product because of your faith. Tell them they should partake in your product because it is a quality product.

Go out there and redeem the marketplace.

Steve and I are in meetings with our association of churches today. It’s cool to be part of something bigger than the local church. It reminds me that we are only a very small part of what God is doing all over the world. Here’s a picture I snapped while we were praying:

Each year, on their birthday (or close to their birthday), I take each of my kids out wherever they want to eat. I know this is going to get expensive someday, but right now it’s doable.

Today, Ethan and I went out for his birthday. He wanted to go to McDonald’s. What did he want to eat? A Happy Meal & a McChicken Sandwich:

Here he is playing with the coloring deal I gave him:

And here he is showing me how his new Transformer transforms:

Cynicism, Part 2

//MOOD: Cynical?

//NOISE: Not Much

Coming soon will be my podcast on Cynicism. I really want some feedback from you on it before I get started, so I am going to reprint my request from a few days ago….

OK, here’s the deal. On my next podcast, I am going to be doing something different. I want to do a show on Cynicism, but I REALLY want your input first. Please, call my comment line at 206 666 5339 and let me know what you think about Cynicism. Here are a few starter questions:

Are you a cynic? Why or why not?

What are you cynical of?

Is cynicism good? Is it bad?

What is cynicisms role in Christianity / Politics / Culture?

Please, call me with your thoughts. I would love to have the next podcast be super interactive. If you would prefer, you can record your own MP3 and email it to me at audi...@dailyjeezit.com. You can leave text comments here, too, but it would be way better if I could hear your pretty voice.

What has the world come to when a car company uses an iPod to sell their new car?

Watch the video here.

You take that and add it to the Pixar / Disney merger and it’s beginning to look like a New World Order is coming into focus.

Wait a minute?

Does that make Steve Jobs the Anti-Christ?

Is the Blogosphere Ready for Mark Driscoll?

//MOOD: Great, actually

//ITUNES: Vanguard
from the album “Beat” by John Fischer

If you have read this blog for long or heard me teach, you know I am a fan of Mark Driscoll. I think he provides a good bit of balance in the “Emergent Church” world. This last week or so, he has started blogging / hitting the web with more force. His blog is here, if you care. Anyhoo, a lot of people have been talking about him, so I have felt like I haven’t needed to. Until now. I appreciate emergent’s own TallSkinnyKiwi and his article: Is the Blogosphere Ready for Mark Driscoll?. Here’s an excerpt that is very gracious, as is his whole post.

…to understand Driscoll is to appreciate Midrash, the understanding that comes from the violent clashing of opposing viewpoints. Driscoll is the King of Midrash and those reading him should not guess that he is holding personal grudges against the people in the other corner of the ring. He just likes a good fight. Its an Irish thing. Get used to it.

Jesus, the Musical

//MOOD: Trepidatious

//NOISE: None

I have been trying to decide for a few days if this is too sacriligious to play, but I just can’t help myself. I think Jesus would find it funny.

If you think you may be offended by Jesus dancing and prancing, etc, please don’t watch this.
