{ MOOD: Ugh | ITUNES: “99 Problems” – Jay-Z }
So I am so excited to be done teaching for awhile after this weekend. I seriosly don’t know how some guys teach every weekend the whole year. I am pretty jazzed because I don’t hit the stage at Riv again until September. And this is quite the appropriate topic. I am hitting on how we seem to think God is either only concerned about us (selfishness) or only concerned about others (extreme-selflessness). Is it possible it is neither or both?
The reason this is appropriate for me right now is that it is easy for a pastor to think that they are indispensible to God’s work. They think they must spend every waking minute being focused on other people, but that is totally whack. Here are a few of things I am looking forward to this summer, and you’ll see some are about me and some are about others:
* WEDDINGS – I am doing a few weddings for friends this summer and it should be a blast
* HSLT – We (my family and I) get to make our annual pilgrimage to Myrtle Beach for a few weeks for HSLT.
* VACATION – After HSLT, Grace, the kids and I are going to stay down there and take a vacation. We may putz our way back north slowly and do, well, nothing.
* DATING MY WIFE – Colitron is finally getting old enough that Grace and I are going to get back to being spouses, instead of just roomies (you parents know what I am talking about)
* WRITING – I have a lot of writing I want to do this summer for a couple different publications and for myself, really.
* READING – My book pile is kinda high and I am looking forward to having more time to dive through the stack. BTW, let me know if you think of any books I should read.
* TEACHING MY KIDS TO RIDE THEIR BIKES – This is officially the summer to teach my oldest two to ride their bikes without the training wheels.
* DO CRAZY CREATIVE CRAP – My brain has been so focused on other things lately, I am looking forward to hanging with Kyle and Dan and dreaming up creative stuff to do at Riv this coming year
* CLEAN MY OFFICE – ‘Nuff said
* CLEAN MY CAR – ‘Nuff said
* EUROPE – Grace and I may be going to Europe so I can teach at Euro-HSLT. If we do that, we are going to turn it into a little vacation for us to reconnect, too.
Anyhoo, off the top of my head, these are the things I am looking forward to.
Well, back to my message prep. Let’s see if I can turn this last bugger out…
