So God taught me something

So God taught me something cool at HSLT this year. We had this commitment service thing on Thursday night called “Cliff.” Basically, it was a totally non-technical service. The great and powerful Dan Price led a few accoustic worship songs and then I was to give a message designed to cause the students to make some changes in their life. I really felt like God wanted to do something cool. This is where God began to hit me. I had placed this expectation on God that if he was going to move greatly that night, I would have to be super “connected” with him. I set aside my afternoon to pray and read the Word. And you know what? It didn’t work. The Word was boring to me. My prayers were just words hurled at the sky. There was no spectacular connection with God. Nada. Zip. Zilch. There was only one word that adequately described my afternoon: boring. In fact, that night as the session was going on I still felt bored. Nothing changed. I watched as lots of people made huge commitments, cried, etc. And I was bored.
God taught me that he doesn’t need me. He’s going to use me, but he can and will handle how he will use me. I don’t need to “feel” connected to be used.
Oh, and that night God did something else that was pretty cool. Before the service started, 6 people in less than 10 minutes came up to me and told me how God had used me in their lives. And they all used almost the same exact words! It was like God was letting me know he loved me and it had nothing to do with me trying to manufacture some emotional experience with Him.

Let’s see if I have time for one more post. Ah…maybe not. They are starting the boarding process for my flight. I guess this was a meaningless post, but I am going to get my $1 worth! Oh, and I will have pictures from HSLT up as soon as I am able. Adios.

Wee ha. I have always wanted to use an internet terminal in an airport, and here I am. Not too shabby. It is a modumb connection, but it is only $1 for 5 minutes. am waiting for my flight in MB. I can’t wait to get home! One of my favorite parts of travelling is getting home and having my kids run up and greet me. They are meeting me at the airport, so I am very much looking forward to seeing them. I am also curious to see if my wife is very much bigger (pregnancy) or not. I have some other thoughts I want to post, but I am afraid I will get booted off before I do. So, I will sign off now. CYA.

So tonight I really had to poo. I settled down with the book I am currently reading. Before I start, I realize there is no TP. So I head over the other bathroom in my condo and discover to my horror it is also a barren land. So I says to my friend Dan, “Can I go use your bathroom?” and his response was “Dude, we don’t have any toilet paper.” This, as you can imagine, was a problem. So I decide to drive to the corner gas station to get some. I jump in my friend Ross’s truck and cannot back it out because it is huge and there are 2 15 passenger vans directly behind it. After a 23 point turn, I hit the road, grab the toilet paper at the gas station and watch a man pay for a carton of cigarettes with $23.89 of change. Then when I got back, there were about 60 teenagers blocking the way to my door and they all wanted to say “hello.” I finally told 3 guys, “Hey, I really have to poop so I can’t talk to you anymore.” By the time I got back, it had been 18 minutes. And the next 5 minutes were the best of my day.

Well, it has been an awesome week at HSLT. We have seen a lot of people make a lot of life changing decisions. My life gets easier the rest of the week. I only have to speak one more time and this is a message I am very passionate about and know pretty well. The next few days Mark Darling from The Rock is speaking. I am pretty excited about that. He spoke at the first several HSLTs I went to and really hit me with some cool stuff.
Well, that’s about all. Later.

Well, HSLT started off with a bang last night. We had two projectors crap out on us within minutes of each other. Very typical for HSLT. But other than that, things went great. In fact, the church we are staying in liked our set so much, they let us leave it up instead of striking it before their church service. That literally is saving us hours of work. Yay. Well, I’ll get pictures up here soon. Adios. Oh, and “Miami Rocks.”

So I have been thinking about something lately. This kinda describes it. For instance, tonight I went to a church service that was definitely not “targetted” for me. But it was good. There were a lot of hymns, there was a great message on our position in Christ, there were a lot of people who loved it. Very cool. I am learning more that God is not trapped in my stylistic box and I need to work hard not to be a style snob.

So I went to see Bruce Almighty last night. My expectations were average for a Jim Carrey movie. I’m kinda glad I wasn’t expecting much because I loved it! This movie worked on so many levels, but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. Just suffice it to say I recommend this movie.

So yesterday I had the most horrible day of travel. It took me nearly 12 hours of travel to fly to Myrtle Beach from home. How ridiculous. I was a little excited to be in New York laid over, but the airport is laid out so crappy, that it makes it stupid to leave the little wing of the airport you are waiting in. I did venture out to get some bad chinese food in the food court, but other than that, I was stuck. On top of that, my laptop was dead and there was no place to plug it in. Arg.
On a different note, here was the best part of my day: flying over NYC. Man, what a cool view. We circled the city once and it wasn’t until we were 3/4 of the way around that I remembered 9/11. It’s amazing how life just goes on. Very sureal moment, really. Oh, and almost everyone on my plane was either on a girls basketball team or they were going home from the Eminem show in Detroit. Picture that plane-load!

Young. Really young. I’d say anywhere from 15-35. But you’ll go out with a bang. You’ll get in a car accident or be shot. You’ll never have to
see yourself get old. Sad though. Really sad. By the way, its common knowledge that more people with great goals and aspirations die young. And if you want to die old, you’ll die young and vice versa.
What age will you die?

Well, I take off tomorrow for Myrtle Beach. Yeeeha. I will try to keep this site up while I am gone, but no promises. I had to install AOL temporarily on my machine so I can have internet access while I am down there. I hate to be part of the AOL monster, but hey I need access.
I have a 3 hour layover at Laguardia Airport in New York. That kinda sucks. Oh well, it’s a new airport for me, so that will be cool. I can add it to my list.
Chat with y’all soon.

So the laptop story gets even more bizarre. I pick up my new machine today and I notice a scratch on the top. “No biggie,” I think, “I’m gonna scratch it anyway.” But then I went to install my airport card and I notice that the screws on the bottom of the computer are all stripped out, like someone has already messed with it. In fact, one of them is so stripped out, it is a “perfect circle” (obscure SNL nod to Dana Carvey as George Michael). I then flip the machine over and notice that the touchpad is pretty worn. I think I was just sold a used machine as new! I am going back to the store in 25 minutes to rectify this situation. This, my friends, is insane.

Well, here’s the deal. My iBook is officially in the crapper. The mother board is shot and I am just going to replace the whole machine. Now I must rant. Let me start by saying I am an avid Mac fan and this latest development doesn’t make me want to turn to the darkside.
However, I am very irritated. I have, in my life, owned 7 macs. I have never had problems until the last two. Both have had significant issues right after the warranty expired. And they are just too expensive to replace. It reminds me of this. Please, please, Apple, help me out here! Apparently both of my machines have had problems that were well documented but not resolved. Arg.
Well, at least I get a new computer today. Oh, and I am buying the extended 3-year warranty.

So I finally saw XMEN last night. It was a good movie, but I have one beef. What the heck kind of accent was Halle Berry supposed to have? It was like she was from some non-descript country or something. Will someone tell me where she was supposed to be from?

Oh, and please pray for my IBook (I know I am begging for y’all to “Mac Slam”)! It is acting very weird and I seriously need it for the next few weeks. (HSLT and all.)I have to get it on long enough to at least rescue my files. Right now it doesn’t want to boot up…no, wait, you must be praying. It just booted. As my friend Terry Bartley says, “Oh, Precious Lord Jesus!” Now pray that it keeps working. Thanks.

A little piece of advice for y’all. Don’t buy sparklers at the Dollar Store. You see, I waited until the extreme last minute to buy fire to give my children. Meijer was out, Target was out, so I had to go to the dollar store. I was so excited when I say they were only a dollar! With that deal, I had to buy a lot.
Needless to say, my children were excited to light these beautiful, multi-colored gems. Well, they didn’t exactly light easily. And when they lit…. well, let’s just say it’s amazing we don’t all have first degree burns! These things spit flames in random directions with no apparent rhyme or reason.
Did I take them from my kids? No. I’m not that smart.
Happy Independence Day.

Well, off to work.
