I’ve been thinking a lot

I’ve been thinking a lot today about the impending war in Iraq. I have found myself to be relatively torn over this issue. On one hand, I resonate with Martin Niemoeller, who when reflecting on the atrocities of Adolf Hitler, wrote:

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out–
because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out–
because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out–
because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out–
because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me–
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

And then I think of the pain and sorrow of war. I find myself teetering between these two thoughts.

But today I was reminded that the Bible says the king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases. (Proverbs 21:1 NIV) I am relieved to know that God knows the plans that are being made, not just by President Bush and Saddam Hussein, but by every leader of every nation on the face of the earth.

BTW, here is one of the better articles I have read on this issue.
